Gustav Klucis:
Born on January 4, 1895 in Valmiera district (Latvia), repressed and killed in 1938 in Russia. Poster and project designer, pioneer of Soviet propaganda photomontage. Last not least the designer of the famous Spartakiade-Set.
On the occasion of the 1928 in Moscow delivered Spartakiade - the
Olympiad of the socialist community of states - the sport becomes a
further mark central topic. Into that altogether Klucis presents
nine different motives of his postcard series again as a
sovereign photomontage artist
He knows at the same time that he sets yardsticks: "you can be proud
that you are first, who receives the new postcards. They open a new
epoch of the art ", he wrote on 4 June 1928 to his wife Mrs. Walentina
Kulagina. Today this set is often shown in museum in the occasion of exhibitions about the Russian Avantgarde.
